After his release, Jimmy goes to meet his old friend Mike Dolan. He returns to his room and takes out his specially made tools for breaking safes. Soon after, a series of safe robberies takes place in different towns. Detective Ben Price, who knows Jimmy’s style very well, understands that Jimmy Valentine is back in business and begins to search for him.
Later, Jimmy reaches a town called Elmore. There he sees Annabel Adams, the daughter of the local banker. The moment he sees her, Jimmy falls in love and decides to change his life. He takes the new name Ralph D. Spencer, starts a shoe business and becomes a respected citizen of Elmore. His business becomes successful, and he wins the trust of the townspeople. Annabel also loves him, and they decide to get married.
Jimmy writes a letter to an old friend saying that he has given up his old life forever. He plans to hand over his safe-breaking tools and begin a completely honest life with Annabel. Meanwhile, Ben Price arrives in Elmore and quietly watches him.
One day, Jimmy visits the bank with Annabel and her family. The banker proudly shows everyone his new safe. While the adults are busy, a little girl named Agatha is accidentally locked inside the safe by another child. Everyone becomes frightened because the door cannot be opened and the child may die inside.
Annabel looks at Jimmy with complete trust and asks him to do something. At that moment, Jimmy faces a serious choice. If he uses his tools, his real identity as a safe-breaker will be revealed. But he decides to save the child, even if it destroys his future. He asks Annabel for the rose she is wearing, keeps it safely, and opens the safe with his old skill. Agatha is saved.
After opening the safe, Jimmy knows that his secret is exposed. He prepares to surrender to Ben Price, who is waiting at the door. But Ben Price acts as if he does not recognize him. He says that Jimmy is mistaken and walks away. Ben understands that Jimmy has truly changed.
The story teaches that real reformation does not come merely from punishment. Jimmy changes not because of prison, but because of love, trust and moral awakening. His willingness to sacrifice his own happiness to save a child proves that he has become a new man. The story shows that true transformation happens when a person’s heart changes.
